Evaluating the Cost of Dentures

Type of Dentures

There are three different types of dentures, and the type you need can impact your overall costs.

  • Partial Dentures: This type of denture replaces a large number of non-consecutive missing teeth. Partial dentures are traditionally removable, and affix to the remaining healthy teeth via metal clasps, which keep the dentures in place. Because a partial denture can require greater customization and precise measurements to accommodate the remaining teeth, partials can cost more than traditional full dentures.
  • Full Dentures: Full dentures are often more straightforward than partial dentures, because they replace an entire arch of missing teeth in the upper and/or lower jaw. This can make full dentures more affordable than partial dentures. These dentures are created from a mold of the patients’ gums and jawbone, and do not require the same precision as dentures for patients with some natural teeth left.
  • Implant-supported Dentures: Both partial and full dentures are available as implant-supported dentures. Dental implants provide superior support and stability for dentures, firmly holding them in place at all times. This option, however, is significantly more expensive than conventional partial or full dentures. Dental implants require a sufficient amount of bone tissue, which usually does not exist in patients who have been missing teeth for some time. Therefore, additional procedures, such as a bone graft, are required to rebuild the bone tissue and improve the patient’s candidacy. The added procedures, plus the cost of the implants themselves, increase the cost of dentures sharply.

Denture Quality

The quality of your dentures will also affect your costs, regardless of whether you choose traditional or implant-supported dentures. Higher end dentures are typically crafted from lifelike materials that closely mimic the appearance of natural gums and teeth. Low-end dentures are much less expensive, but are also less likely to last an extended period of time. You may also notice more discomfort with low-end dentures and a less natural appearance. A mid-range option will ensure a secure fit, but may compromise on appearance slightly.

Financing Options for Your Dentures

Some insurance plans will cover a portion of the costs for dentures. After meeting with Dr. Goodman you should consult with your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for the dentures he has recommended. Keep in mind that any portion your insurance plan does not cover, you must pay out-of-pocket.

Because dentures are an important necessity both for oral health and for your quality of life, we accept CareCreditTM financing. This allows you to finance your treatment with no interest rates or at a low rate to make your treatment more affordable. We also accept all major credit cards and cash and check payments.
