Orthodontics: Not Just Your Traditional Braces

OrthodonticsMisaligned, crooked, or overcrowded teeth can certainly weigh down your smile. The thought of perpetually wearing traditional metal brackets can weigh on your spirits as well! To effectively correct these issues in the shortest amount of time possible, the dental practice of John P. Goodman, D.D.S. offers innovative orthodontics treatments, including Invisalign®, to our Kansas City, MO, patients. The goal is to give you the healthy smile you deserve through the safest, most effective means possible!

Sixth Month Smiles®

This orthodontics treatment - made available by our Kansas City dentist - is exactly as it sounds: a combination of traditional orthodontics, revolutionary techniques, and aesthetically-appealing materials to transform your smile in about six months. The six-month time period is significantly less than the 18 to 48 months that traditional braces may require! Through the use of tooth-colored traditional brackets and wires, Dr. Goodman will correct spaced, crooked, or crowded teeth. Six Month Smiles® is especially well-suited for adults and teens that do not require significant changes to their bite (porcelain veneers may be another alternative in such cases).

Invisalign® Invisible Braces

Invisalign® has taken orthodontics by storm! So clear they're deemed "invisible braces," a growing number of adults are turning to this cosmetic dentistry option for the correction of teeth misalignment.

As a testament to his thorough training, Dr. John Goodman also offers conventional orthodontics to align a patient's teeth and jaw. Our dentist regards the approximate 18 to 48 month-long treatment as a tried-and-true method for assuring oral health. Typically, candidates for traditional braces are between 10 and 14 years of age. Following the removal of the brackets, patients will need to wear a retainer for several months in order to help stabilize the adjusted position of the teeth.

Invisalign® straightens teeth through the use of a series of clear, plastic retainers. After our dentist takes an impression of your teeth, the retainers will be customized; the alignment devices will slip directly onto your teeth, so you can ultimately wear them round-the-clock (with the exception of meals and tooth-brushing, in which they can be removed). Invisalign® patients will need to return to our office in Kansas City for occasional checkups, but on the whole, the treatment requires little oversight. The treatment is as effective as traditional braces and tends to require 12 to 48 months to adjust the teeth.
