Designing, Creating, and Placing Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can have transformative effects on your smile, concealing a number of cosmetic flaws, and even reshaping teeth. If you are considering veneers, you may have questions about the treatment process, such as how are they made and how are they placed on the tooth? Dr. John P. Goodman takes great care when designing and placing porcelain veneers at his Kansas City, MO, dental practice. Contact us today to find out more about the process, and if porcelain veneers are right for your smile.

Planning and Preparing for Veneers

Your treatment will begin with a thorough consultation with Dr. Goodman. He will examine your teeth and discuss your cosmetic goals. You will work together to design veneers that will achieve the results you desire.

During your appointment, Dr. Goodman will prepare your teeth using very gentle, conservative techniques, typically removing .5 mm to .7 mm of tooth enamel. His many years of experience help guarantee that you will feel minimal discomfort during your procedure. In fact, most patients do not require local anesthesia, though it is available if needed.

The Fabrication Process

After carefully reshaping your teeth, Dr. Goodman will take impressions, so that our partner lab can fabricate the most lifelike veneers possible. The technicians will create your veneers, using state-of-the-art porcelain. The material will match the color of your smile, and since it is slightly translucent, it will possess a natural sparkle. We work with a trusted laboratory to help guarantee stunning final results.

Dr. Goodman and his dedicated staff believe that our Kansas City patients deserve the very best dental care, and the smile of their dreams.

While you are waiting for your veneers to be completed, Dr. Goodman may attach temporary veneers, depending on your case and how much enamel was removed. The temporary veneers will not be as realistic as your final restorations. However, temporary veneers can prevent sensitivity and help you maintain oral function.

Applying Your Porcelain Veneers

Once your completed veneers have been received in our office, you will come in for a second appointment, where Dr. Goodman will check the shape and appearance of your veneers before applying them to your teeth. He will make sure that they fit correctly, as well as consider their overall cosmetic appearance. He will ensure that your veneers do not disrupt the force and balance of your bite. At this time, Dr. Goodman will carefully trim, adjust, and reshape the porcelain, if necessary.

Once satisfied with the look and fit of your veneers, Dr. Goodman will prepare your teeth with a gentle chemical solution. The material will etch the front of your teeth, creating microscopic grooves in your enamel. This step will not cause discomfort or harm your teeth. It simply creates more surface area so that your veneers will form a stronger bond to your teeth. Finally, Dr. Goodman will use composite resin to affix the porcelain to your teeth. A curing light will harden the material.

Same-day Veneers

Along with traditional veneers, Dr. Goodman also offers same-day veneers. Dr. Goodman can apply composite resin directly to your teeth, using this material to hide flaws and reshape your teeth. After making sure that the composite has a smooth and natural finish, he will harden the material with a curing light.
