Do you wish to achieve a whiter, brighter smile? If so, teeth whitening provides dramatic results to quickly improve the aesthetic appeal of a smile. Dr. Goodman discusses the treatment's benefits, including affordability and efficiency.
Stains and Discoloration
Simple everyday activities can have a significant impact on the appearance of your teeth. Drinking beverages like coffee or wine, eating foods like berries or mustard, taking certain medications, and the use of tobacco products can stain your teeth and cause you to feel self-conscious. Even with proper brushing and flossing habits, it can be very difficult to maintain bright white teeth. Our teeth whitening treatments can eliminate deep stains in a safe and effective manner.
How the Treatment Works
When you receive your take-home whitening kit, Dr. Goodman will give you thorough instructions: how long the treatment should last, the length of each application, the best time of day to apply the gel, and so on. The kit includes a gel-like bleaching agent and plastic trays customized to fit your dental arches. The gel is applied to the inside of the tray, which is then fit over your teeth. The tray serves two purposes: ensuring an even application and keeping the gel in place. Exposure to the bleaching agent can irritate the gums and other soft tissues. Contact with saliva can also substantially dilute the potency of the active ingredients. Because the tray is tailored to your smile, it fits over your teeth securely and comfortably without irritating your mouth or sacrificing the gel’s strength.
Dr. Goodman typically provides enough gel for a single two-week treatment and one- or two-day touch-ups every six months. Different whitening gels have varying amounts of the bleaching agent. The stronger the formula, the faster it will work and the less time it should stay on – and vice versa. Gentler products can be left on overnight while other, stronger agents require only 30 to 60 minutes each day. We will work with you to determine which strength is best for your needs. Be sure to follow Dr. Goodman's instructions when applying the gel. Too much exposure to the bleaching agent can damage tooth enamel, irritate gum tissue, and cause extra sensitivity. Even if no damage is done, applying the gel too often can whiten your teeth unevenly.
