Dental Implants

Missing teeth can make life difficult. Chewing, speaking, or smiling can become painful and embarrassing.

At the dental practice of John Goodman, DDS, in Kansas City, MO, we provide a life-changing solution to people struggling with missing teeth - dental implants!

Implants provide superior support for restorations, allowing patients to chew and smile with confidence. Could dental implants work for you?

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that replace tooth roots. These titanium rods fuse with the jawbone, providing secure support for restorations like crowns, bridges, or dentures. Because the placement of dental implants requires oral surgery, the entire treatment process takes several months. While the procedure is more involved than traditional restoration options, the long-term oral health benefits of implants make it more than worthwhile for qualifying patients.

Dental Implant Timeline

Receiving dental implants usually breaks down into several distinct steps over a period of several months. Depending on a variety of factors, including patient health and the strength of the jawbone, more or fewer operations may be required.

Day of Procedure

Consultation

Contact us online or call (816) 842-8585 to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Goodman. The dentist will examine your smile to determine if dental implants are right for you. He may take photos or digital scans using a cone beam scanner to create a 3-D model of your bite. If Dr. Goodman determines you are a good candidate for dental implants, he will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon for the implant surgery.

First Surgery

When you come in for your first surgery, the oral surgeon can provide sedation to help you relax. Using an advanced digital scan of your bite for precision, the surgeon will make incisions in your gums through which to place the titanium implants. After the surgeon places the implants, they will stitch the incision shut.

First Healing Period

The first healing period takes somewhere between three and six months. During this time, the process of osseointegration takes place, meaning that the implants are fusing with your jawbone. We can provide a temporary restoration during this time.

Abutment Placement

After the first healing period, the oral surgeon attaches an abutment to the implant, which will serve as a connection between the artificial tooth root and your restoration. Again, sedation is available if you desire.

Second Healing Period

After the abutment is placed, a healing period of about two weeks is required for the gums to properly heal around the abutment.

Restoration Placement

Finally, you are ready to receive your crown, bridge, or denture. The oral surgeon will attach the restoration to the abutment so that it seamlessly blends in with your natural teeth. You will walk out of our dental office with a newly restored smile.

Before and After

before dental implants
Before
After
This patient went to the emergency room for a dental emergency, but the doctors at the emergency room glued the front teeth back into the opposite positions. The only option for restoring the form and function of his smile was dental implant treatment, which produced a strong and aesthetically pleasing result that gave him a new lease on life.

The Cost of Dental Implants

Dental implants fall under the category of restorative dentistry, and as such most dental insurance plans will cover some or all of the cost of treatment. At the dental practice of Dr. John Goodman in Kansas City, MO, a single tooth implant replacement can cost between $3,500 and $4,500. An All-on-4 procedure to replace a full arch could cost between $25,000 and $40,000.

Although it can seem like a high price to pay, the expert dental care provided by Dr. Goodman and his oral surgeon partners can produce results that last a lifetime. Traditional dentures or bridges may be cheaper, but they do not last as long as implants and they are not as secure.

Dr. Goodman and his team work with patients to make treatment as affordable as possible. We will work to ensure you are accessing every available benefit of your dental insurance, and we offer financing plans through CareCredit®.
