The Cost of Dental Implants

At the dental practice of Dr. John Goodman in Kansas City, MO, a single-tooth implant replacement can cost between $3,500 and $4,500. An All-on-4 procedure to replace a full arch could cost between $25,000 and $40,000. Your final costs will also be influenced by how many teeth you are replacing and whether you require preparatory dentistry as part of your treatment plan.

Dental implants fall under the category of restorative dentistry, but dental insurance tends to handle them uniquely. You will likely receive some level of coverage for your implant-supported restorations, but implants themselves are not typically covered.

Although it can seem like a high price to pay, the expert dental care provided by Dr. Goodman and his oral surgeon partners can produce results that last a lifetime. Traditional dentures or bridges may be cheaper initially, but they do not last as long as implants, do not maintain jawbone strength, and are not as secure.

Dr. Goodman and his team will work with you to make your treatment as affordable as possible. We can coordinate with your insurance provider to ensure you are accessing every available benefit of your plan, and we offer financing plans through CareCredit® that can allow you to split out-of-pocket expenses into manageable monthly installments.

Dental Implants Are Revolutionary

"The implant has just completely revolutionized what we do," says dentist John Goodman. "You can chew with it, you can floss it. You brush it and treat it just like any other tooth that you have. It can last your lifetime." Watch the video for more insights:
Dr. Goodman discusses the benefits of dental implants, including their longevity, stability, and ability to blend seamlessly with natural teeth. He also addresses the evolution of dental implants and how they have transformed the way smiles are reconstructed. What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are posts made of titanium that replace the tooth roots. These titanium rods fuse with the jawbone, providing secure support for restorations such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. While the procedure is more involved than being fitted for traditional restorations, the long-term oral health benefits of implants make them a worthwhile dental option for people missing one tooth or several.

Dental Implant Timeline

If you think dental implants could be the right treatment for you, your treatment plan at our Kansas City practice will roughly follow the timeline below. However, if you suffer from gum disease or are lacking in jawbone strength, you may require some preparatory treatments for optimum implant longevity.

Consultation

Contact us online or call (816) 842-8585 to request an initial consultation with Dr. Goodman. Our dentist will examine your smile to determine if dental implants are right for you. He may take photos or digital scans using a cone beam scanner to create a 3-D model of your bite. If Dr. Goodman determines you are a good candidate for dental implants, he will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon in the Kansas City area for implant surgery.

1

First Surgery

When you come in for your first surgery, the oral surgeon can provide sedation to help you relax. Using an advanced digital scan of your bite for precision, the surgeon will make incisions in your gums to place the titanium implants. After the implants are positioned, the surgeon will stitch the incisions shut.

2

First Healing Period

The first healing period takes somewhere between three and six months. During this time, the process of osseointegration takes place. This is when the implant fuses with your jawbone. If needed, we can provide a temporary restoration to wear during this interim healing period.

3

Abutment Placement

After the first healing period, the oral surgeon will attach an abutment to the implant. The abutment is the connector between the artificial tooth root (the implant) and your restoration. Again, sedation is available if you desire.

4

Second Healing Period

After the abutment is placed, a short healing period of about two weeks is required for the gums to properly heal around the abutment.

5

Restoration Placement

You will finally be ready to receive your crown, bridge, or denture. Dr. Goodman will attach the restoration to the abutment and ensure it is seated properly for optimum performance and longevity. He will also take care to see that it is comfortable and seamlessly blends in with your natural teeth. You will walk out of our dental office with a newly restored smile.

6

Before and After

BEFORE DENTAL IMPLANTS
Before
AFTER DENTAL IMPLANTS
After
This patient went to the emergency room for a dental emergency, but the doctors reattached his front teeth in the opposite positions. The only option for restoring the form and function of his smile was dental implant treatment, which produced a strong and aesthetically pleasing result that gave him a new lease on life.

Lifestyle and Health Conditions  Can Affect Your Candidacy

Your health and lifestyle choices can affect whether you can be considered a candidate for dental implants. If you are considering implants, the first step is requesting a consultation with Dr. Goodman so the two of you can go over your medical history, concerns, and treatment goals. You will also want to let the doctor know what medications you take.

It's important to be upfront about health issues because they can affect how successful dental implants will be for you. For example, if you have undergone radiation therapy for head or neck cancer, that can slightly increase the risk of implant failure.

However, even if you are not a prime candidate for implants now, dental treatments are available that can help you qualify for implants.

Some factors to be considered include:

Poor Jaw Density

If you have been missing teeth for a long time, the bone in your jaw deteriorates and may become too weak to support implants. In these cases, we offer bone grafting to restore the lost tissue and strengthen your jawbone.

Smoking

Smoking inhibits your body's ability to heal properly and increases the risk of implant failure. If you smoke, you should quit for several months before surgery and plan to stop for good

Periodontal Disease

Healthy gums are essential for both your natural teeth and dental implants. If you are suffering from gum disease, we offer periodontal treatments to create a healthy foundation for your implant.

Uncontrolled Diabetes

Diabetes and other autoimmune diseases increase the risks of surgery and inhibit healing. Be sure to tell the dentist about these health issues. On a positive note, if your diabetes is under control, your success rate climbs to rates equal to those who do not have the disease.
