Tooth Extraction

Nobody wants a tooth extraction. Sometimes, though, it's the best option to protect your oral health.

If you're experiencing pain, bleeding, or swelling, Kansas City, MO, dentist John Goodman can help.

He can coordinate your extraction with a local oral surgeon and follow up with a custom restoration at our dental practice.

When Should I Seek an Extraction?

Even if you notice symptoms, by acting quickly, you may be able to avoid an extraction. Instead, our dentist might just need to place a dental filling or perform a root canal. Visit our Kansas City dentist as soon as possible for a complimentary consultation if you observe:

  • Color Changes in Your Enamel
  • Bleeding, Pus, or Discharge
  • Excessive or Persistent Pain
  • Swelling of the Gums or Jaw
  • Severe Tooth Trauma or Breakage
  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Can Insurance Help Me?

/

Yes, it can. Due to the serious impact decayed, missing, or infected teeth can have on your health, insurance will contribute to the cost of your extraction. This includes wisdom teeth extraction as well. We also feature free consultations, so that you don't risk a cent for your initial visit.

What Does Tooth Extraction Look Like?

First, your Kansas City oral surgeon will ensure you're comfortable with dental anesthetic. Then, the surgeon will extract your tooth, from the top to the roots. Once your tooth is removed, they will ensure the area is sterile and cover it with protective gauze.

How Should I Take Care of Myself After an Extraction?

After a tooth extraction, you may need to take antibiotics to assist with the healing process and to prevent infection. Make sure to take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed.

You'll likely also need to temporarily restrict your meals to room-temperature, soft foods and refrain from drinking with straws. This helps keep the blood clot over your extraction site fully in place, preventing dry socket. Dry socket is a painful condition that occurs when the bone and nerves at the extraction site are exposed before the wound fully heals.

Finally, if you ever have any questions or concerns, you're welcome to call our dentist and friendly team for assistance.
