Implant-Supported Bridges Can Replace Missing Teeth and Protect Your Long-Term Oral Health

John P. Goodman, D.D.S., is committed to providing patients with the most advanced and natural-looking dental restorations available. He proudly offers implant-supported bridges to patients at his Kansas City, MO practice. Dental implants can replace your missing tooth roots and provide a permanent foundation for your custom-made bridge. Once the implants have fused with your jawbone, Dr. Goodman will attach the bridge after confirming that it matches the shape and color of the adjacent teeth. With this attention to detail, your implant-supported bridge will be stable and incredibly natural-looking.

Implant-supported Bridges Candidates

An implant-supported bridge may be appropriate if you are missing two or more adjacent teeth. If you have just a single missing tooth, you may be better-suited with an implant-supported crown. An implant-supported denture will be more appropriate if you are missing most or all of your teeth.

To qualify for implants, it is important that you are in good oral health and have a sufficient amount of healthy bone tissue to support the titanium posts. You should come to your initial consultation prepared to discuss your medical history and your goals for treatment.

What to Expect When You Receive an Implant-Supported Bridge

To ensure a successful implant surgery, Dr. Goodman will carefully plan your customized treatment. He will take x-rays and scans of your jaw to identify any areas of bone recession and find the most appropriate positions to place your dental implants. Dr. Goodman will refer you to an Oral Surgeon to have the implants placed. They will work closely together on your treatment plan.    After the implants are placed and healed Dr. Goodman will attach the bridge.  Although a traditional bridge can certainly enhance your smile and oral function, an implant-supported restoration can provide additional benefits for your oral health.

While you are healing, we can provide a temporary bridge so that you can enjoy improved dental function. During this period, our partnering dental lab will craft your permanent restoration using advanced materials. It typically takes between three and six months for the implants to integrate with your jaw completely, before Dr. Goodman can attach your permanent denture.

What Are the Advantages of Implant-Supported Bridges?

Although a traditional bridge can certainly enhance your smile and oral function, an implant-supported restoration can provide additional benefits for your oral health. After tooth loss, the jawbone can begin to deteriorate because it is no longer receiving stimulation from the tooth roots. Dental implants can replace this functionality and prevent future bone loss. Additionally, implant-supported bridges are incredibly durable. With proper care, your restoration can last for many years.
