Partial Dentures

Millions of Americans use dentures and partial dentures to replace missing teeth. If you are missing several teeth, you may be a good candidate for a partial denture. The prosthetic can be fixed or removable. Dr. John Goodman has more than 20 years of experience placing dentures in Kansas City, MO. His dental office is a one-stop shop where patients can receive a range of modern treatments under one roof. If you are suffering due to missing several teeth, Dr. Goodman can determine if this or another solution is the best way to restore your smile.

Benefits of Partial Dentures

Partial dentures can allow you to experience:

  • A reduced risk of teeth shifting out of place
  • Improved bite balance
  • Freedom to eat a wider range of foods
  • Improved clarity of speech
  • A more attractive smile
  • Improved self-confidence

Our office also offers dental implants. Implants are titanium devices that replace tooth roots in order to support partial dentures and other restorations. During your consultation, Dr. Goodman can explain more about this option and help you determine the best way to meet your needs.

Are You a Candidate?

Candidates for a partial denture are missing multiple teeth. If you are missing an entire arch, a traditional or implant-supported full denture may be a better solution. If you are missing one or a few consecutive teeth, a dental bridge may be the best way to restore your smile.

Patients who are seeking a partial denture should be in good oral health, with no active gum disease, tooth decay, or other issues. If you are seeking implant-supported dentures, Dr. Goodman will have to establish if you have adequate jawbone density before recommending implant surgery.

How Are Partial Dentures Placed?

During your consultation at our Kansas City office, Dr. Goodman will examine your smile and take x-rays. Any issues such as gum disease or the need for tooth extraction will need to be addressed before you can be fitted for a partial denture. Once your candidacy has been established, an impression of your teeth will be made.

Dr. Goodman will send this mold to a trusted laboratory, which will manufacture your prosthetic over the course of two to four weeks. We can provide a temporary restoration in the meantime. Once your custom partial denture arrives at our office, a second appointment for its placement will be scheduled. During your second appointment, Dr. Goodman will ensure that the prosthetic fits properly and that it meets your cosmetic goals.

If you choose implant-supported partial dentures, you will need to undergo dental implant surgery. Full recovery from this procedure usually takes three to six months. Once your jaw has fully healed, small metal devices called abutments will be placed. Your partial bridge will attach to the abutments.
