Smile Makeover Treatment Timeline By Dr. John Goodman on March 16, 2023

before and after smile makeover treatmentCosmetic treatments can address a myriad of concerns you may have with your smile, such as discoloration, cracks and chips, gaps between teeth, misalignment, and more. If you have more than one concern, a smile makeover can work to correct your cosmetic flaws in a streamlined plan.

John P. Goodman DDS in Kansas City, MO, offers a range of services that can be used as part of your plan. Here’s what your plan may include and what you can expect for your smile makeover treatment timeline:

Gum Contouring: 1-2 Hours

If you have a gummy or asymmetrical smile, gum contouring can remove the excess tissue and reshape the frame for your smile. We can use laser dentistry to precisely reshape your gumline to balance out your smile. Gum contouring should be completed at the beginning of your smile makeover timeline for best results.

Teeth Whitening: 1 Hour to 2 Weeks

The fastest cosmetic treatment you can receive, teeth whitening can take as little as one hour. We offer Philips Zoom!® in-office teeth whitening to brighten your smile by up to eight shades in just one appointment. We also offer Glo® teeth whitening kits you can use at home and receive brilliant results in just two weeks of consistent use.

We recommend patients whiten their teeth toward the beginning of their smile makeover plan so the rest of their dental work can match their new brilliant shade of white.

Tooth-Colored Fillings: 30 Minutes to 1 Hour

If you have metal amalgam fillings, we can remove them and replace them with tooth-colored fillings. These fillings are just as effective as metal fillings, without the drawback of silver in your mouth.

The amount of time this procedure will take depends on how many fillings you're having removed and replaced, but you can expect 30 minutes to an hour per tooth.

Orthodontics: 12-18 Months

Patients with mild-to-moderate misalignment may qualify for clear aligners. Clear aligners use a series of custom-made trays to gradually move teeth into their ideal positions over 12-18 months.

If you have severe misalignment, you may be better suited to another orthodontic option like braces. We can refer you to an orthodontist if this is the case.

Veneers: 1 Day to 2 Weeks

Veneers are porcelain shells that fit over your teeth to conceal flaws like chips, cracks, discoloration, gaps, and more. During your first appointment, a small amount of enamel is removed from the affected tooth, and impressions are made. Our lab then creates your custom-made veneers and you can return to have them placed in one to two weeks.

Our Kansas City, MO, office also offers minimal-prep and same-day veneers for patients who want a faster alternative.
