“I have the biggest fear of going to the dentist. However, Dr. Goodman and the hygienist Tina are helping me overcome my fear. Everyone here is very nice. I can tell they genuinely care about my health.” — Melissa, 5-Star Review

Keeping Care Affordable

Twice-annual exams and cleanings are considered preventative care, so your dental insurance will likely contribute to the cost. We accept most insurance plans and can verify your benefits before your appointment. If you’re uninsured or have out-of-pocket costs, we accept CareCredit® financing so you can pay for your care in manageable installments.

Cleaning

One of our dental hygienists will use special tools to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth that you can’t remove with at-home care. They will also polish and floss your teeth.

Exam

Dr. Goodman will examine your teeth, gums, and oral structures for signs of tooth decay, damage, and gum inflammation. He will also perform an oral cancer screening. If you have any dental pain or discomfort, he will encourage you to voice your concerns and ask questions.

X-Rays

Typically at every other checkup, Dr. Goodman will take X-rays of your teeth and jawbone. These dental X-rays will help him detect cavities, bite problems, and problems below the gumline. He will also use them to detect changes.

Sealants

For children and adults who are prone to cavities, our team may recommend a dental sealant. This procedure involves painting a plastic coating onto the top surface of your molars. Once this layer hardens, it creates a barrier that keeps food debris and bacteria out of the tooth grooves, making you less susceptible to cavities.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Exams in Kansas City, MO

Why are dental exams important?

Dental exams are essential for maintaining the health of your teeth and gums. During a dental exam, Dr. Goodman will check for cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and other potential issues. Regular checkups help catch problems early before they become costly, invasive, or painful to treat.

How often should I attend dental exams?

Most patients should attend a routine cleaning and exam every six months. However, if you have gum disease or another condition, Dr. Goodman may recommend that you visit our Kansas City office more often.

What if I haven’t had a dental exam in years?

That’s okay! We can fit you in for an appointment as soon as possible. Even if it’s been a while since your last checkup, we’ll provide a judgment-free environment and focus on restoring your oral health. We offer a wide range of dental services so we can address your concerns.

Do cleanings and exams hurt?

No. If you experience dental anxiety, you can rest assured that our hygienists and dentist use gentle techniques to make your visit more comfortable. We also offer blankets, pillows, and other amenities to help you relax throughout your appointment. If you need a lengthier procedure, we can administer nitrous oxide sedation.
